This week’s Listen to This is here! We have three jams to kick off the beginning of Phish spring tour!
First up this week is Piper into Gumbo from the recent Live Bait release. Demonstrating a massive highlight of the final tour of 1.0, Mike steps out front in both of these jams as his incredible bass lines craft beautiful improvisational spaces and grooves!
Next we have Cities from August 6, 2010 at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley! Phish returns to this historic venue for the first time since this run on their upcoming tour and I certainly hope there are jams on the level of this absolute groove MACHINE! The band locks in on the funky outro to Cities and weaves a democratic and incredibly dancey space!
Finally, we have Prince Caspian from July 19, 2017 in Pittsburgh. In my opinion, this is the best Caspian the band has ever played. Venturing into uncharted territory and landing atop a bed of Page’s Wurlitzer and synth, Trey takes the reins and smashes to peak after peak before triumphantly concluding the song. An underrated version from the pre-Baker’s Dozen run!
