Each week, I will share three songs (or jams) I have been listening to recently that I think YOU should listen to. To check out all the previous weeks, visit thisisstormsound.com.
First up this week is Thing of Gold by Snarky Puppy from June 8, 2019. This version was recently recommended to me and it is absolutely incredible! Bob Reynolds takes an amazing sax solo over the vamp from Sign O’ The Times by Prince and gets into a super funky breakdown with Justin Stanton on Rhodes in the middle! Bobby Sparks weaves a Moog and organ outro perfectly into the beginning of Whitecap!
Next we have Eyes of the World from Dick’s Picks 31. Recorded in August 1974, this amazing rendition from the Wall of Sound era captures the Dead at their most adventurous, swirling and cascading through the beautiful solo sections and jam with ease.
Finally, we have Sense by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard from Paper Mache Dream Balloon. I hadn’t heard this song before attending their show at Red Rocks last week, and I was blown away by the melodic and extended jam they reached within it. More jammy Gizzard please!
