Each week, I will share three songs (or jams) I have been listening to recently that I think YOU should listen to. To check out all the previous weeks, click the link in the description or visit thisisstormsound.com.
First up this week is He’s Gone by Organ Fairchild! The latest single from their upcoming album Leisure Suit, the Buffalo trio takes this Grateful Dead classic to new heights with the funky instrumental arrangement. Guitarist Dave Ruch’s tone is absolutely perfect on the melody and they nail tempo changes throughout the cover.
Next we have A Wave of Hope from Phish’s show in Wilmington, NC on July 19, 2023. While the second set was cut short by rain, this monster 20-minute jam was placed as just the second song of the show. Not relying heavily on effects, Trey leads the band through an amazingly-crafted major key space. (Video of this particular version not available yet)
Finally, we have Cats Under the Stars by Joe Russo’s Almost Dead from March 3, 2019 in Portland, ME. This funky Jerry Garcia Band tune gets taken for a serious spin here, with Marco’s muted Rhodes stabs really standing out. Stick around for the incredible segue into Slipknot and Franklin’s Tower that come after!
