Each week, I share three songs (or jams) I have been listening to recently that I think YOU should listen to. To check out all the previous weeks, visit thisisstormsound.com.
First up this week is Skylark/Slowlark from Karina Rykman’s album Joyride. That’s right – TWO Joyride tracks in a row! Featuring guitarist Marlo Shankweiler and vocalist Veronica Stewart-Frommer of Melt, this track’s twin sections have been playing a LOT since the album came out last week!
Next up is Supernova from Mark Lettieri’s newly-released Out By Midnight live album. With a guest spot from Snarky Puppy violinist Zach Brock, this grimy song just CRUSHES – as does the rest of the album! Read my interview with Mark and a track-by-track breakdown via JamBase here!
Finally, we have Staircase from Umphrey’s McGee’s show in Huntsville, Alabama just last night! With Goose’s Ben Atkind on drums, the sextet traverses modes and expands on an excellent bliss motif as it approaches the 20-minute mark. Ben absolutely CRUSHED it and I can’t wait to hear the rest of his run with UM! Listen to the full show via Nugs.net – here’s a video excerpt from later in the show.
